Hey guys, I am proud to say that I've successfully installed Steam! Also for any one running a 64 bit version before you start trying to run the i suggest you run the following first otherwise nothing will happen as the 64 bit has some 32bit libraries missing. no files downloaded nothing...just said that it was updated...i checked the list of games using the ./steam -command list and there is not css in there.... If anyone needs help with installing Counter Strike on a current version of Ubuntu (Breezy went end-of-life in 2007) please start a new thread in a support section of the forum where you are more likely to get help.

I think u forgot to sudo chmod x hldsupdatetool.bin, hope this helps Sorry to dredge an old thread as well, but I forgot to add the rest of my story. from what you posted it looks like the "server" is running fine. And after that when i run the " ./srcds_run -game cstrike -autoupdate map de_dusti get bash: ./srcds_run: No such file or directory I tried with sudo and from the srcds folder and from root and all of them !!! :) :) :) you are missing a space and a full stop after the -dir thats why it isnt working.

For a basic system set up walk through please use Part 1 of my guide to setting up an Ubuntu server.

Everything in that article is relevant to this guide.

This is one way to make a dedicated server for Garry's Mod via port forwarding instead of using a hamachi client.

The benefit to this is that anyone can go on your server, as long as you allow it.

Here is an example file that runs a Half-Life Deathmatch server.

Download Steam_Inside the file it looks like this: c: cd c:\HLServer start /high c:\HLServer\-game valve -port 27015 maxplayers 9 Here's a breakdown of the commands: The maxplayers setting should be optimized related to your uplink connection.

Once you have finished installing the Half-Life Dedicated Source Update Tool, open command prompt and copy and paste this code in: C: cd \srcds hldsupdatetool Now your able to use the update tool commands.

Copy and paste this code to update the server in the same command prompt: hldsupdatetool -command update -game "garrysmod" -dir C:\srcds The update process can take anywhere from half an hour to an hour and a half depending on where you live, your internet connection speed and the speed of the valve servers.

Go to "C:\srcds\orangebox\garrysmod\cfg" and open up the file with notepad, if the file does not exist, create it using notepad and save the file as "server.cfg" NOT "txt" Go here to create the file's code.

[email protected]:/cs$ ./steam -command update -game cstrike -dir . Getting version 17 of Steam HLDS Update Tool Downloading.

EDIT: i would add "chmod 755 -R /srcds" , if you add just "chmod 755 /srcds" after install you wont be able to do anything without superuser privileges.everything went smoothly, until the second to last step....
